Description:
KiFi is a wireless networking manager for the K Desktop Environment. It allows you to view the status of all wireless cards installed on your system that implement the Linux Wireless Extensions interface (most cards today), including currently associated SSID and signal strength.

You can also put a card into "scanning" mode, which will scan for available networks. You can then use KiFi to associate with a discovered network.
Last changelog:

Oct 15, 2004: iwlib from the wireless_tools package has now been imported into the source tree. This should fix the number one issue that has come up of users not having the correct version installed.

---
Oct 9, 2004 : Small update: the known networks view now is kept up-to-date with scan results, ie. the signal strength for a scanned network is updated. Also, KiFi will minimally bring an interface up, if it's not already up, if you want to start scanning (as scanning requires the interface to be up).

----
Oct 7, 2004 : The version in CVS right now allows you to switch between networks somewhat, so I'm releasing again. This is mostly to get feedback, and because I'm not sure if this version has been released.
----
Initial public release. Contains support for reporting signal strength and associated SSID for multiple wireless cards. Also provides initial support for scanning for available networks.

whats happening with the development of kifi, I like it better than most other. The gui is much easier and more intuitive.

GUI uses incorrect font size - I got smaller font set in the system, but you don't respect this

Please feel free to email me, or post something on the forums we have up at http://kifi.staticmethod.net if you use KiFi and have some feedback. Thanks!

- /usr/sbin/iwconfig is hardcoded - shouldn't be - debian got it otherplace - GUI ain't fully intuitive. I got no clue how to make dhcpclient invoked - kifi does not ensures encription key=off for profiles w/o the key - Delete profile's requested should have "No" as default active answer - no keyboard shortcuts for any window buttons - why I have to specify the iface prior to creating the profile? If no iface is given profile shall be just inactive (No "Go" for it) but see no reason why I couldn't be able to create such w/o network ...

I really wish I had more time to work on this, but it's kind of been lacking lately. If anyone wants to get involved, there's a pretty solid code base, just let me know :)

I am looking for something that will let me graphically select a scanned AP and auto configure for me! If you get super ambitious, you might even add something that will: A.) auto scan for AP's and connect B.) follow a list of preferred AP's w/ optional WEP keys Good Luck!

Just wanted to point out that we've gotten a LOT of work done over the past couple days, so we're hoping for a new release in the next couple days. Biggest new feature is being able to switch networks to ones discovered when scanning.

It should be noted (and a better way to do this is trying to be thought of) that KiFi currently needs to be run as root in order for it to be able to support scanning. Scanning support for wireless cards requires root access for some reason. If you run it as your normal user you can still have your SSID and signal strength displayed though.
