I am not sure that the best way to go forward is going backwards. A single format, long overdue. A standard location, Great if you can define standard locations for universe, system, user and application configurations A name value par registry, what?? flat structures are so outdated because of their limited expressiveness. My comments: The registry in 'those' other operating systems is such a headache even the 'other' vendor is replacing it with config files in their .NET platform. Now you can do xcopy deployment without writing a formal 'install' while at the same time you have access to machine.config. All this not to praise the 'other' vendor OS. This is simply to try to learn from other's mistakes. Unless of course we want linux to become as unreliable as the 'other' operating system.
this was a kcm module, and followed the kde HIG (human interface guidelines) I would be happy, and would actually start using elektra for my cd-ripping program :)
... editing config files, but in fact storing cfg info in 1000ds of files with different syntax is not the best way. After the linux registry project changed its name I can really say that I like it :)
registry sucks! the idea alone is flawed. long live configuration plain text files.
you forgot a small detail. The Linux Registry (now called elektra) is just a st of rules for using plain text files, read up on the facts first, you'll love it. trust me, youll love it! :D
/usr/bin/regedit conflicts with file from wine package... Another reason for a differant name.
You really shouldn't be distributing Autopackages until it reaches version 1.0. Anyone who installs this package is likely to have trouble upgrading when 1.0 is finally released.
I like the idea.. i don't like the name registry.. name it something else it brings all of us bad memories.
yes i know, we are searching for something different. if you have any ideas please let us know. gregor
what about konfig, konfigure, konfigurator or something like this?

rg is the command line tool for the linux registry. you need to install the linux registry first. you can find it at registry.sourceforge.net. I forgot to check for the linux registry in the autopackage package, sorry for that.
please use the prepared packages if possible. the autopackage package should work on nearly all linux distributions. if not tell me. if you compile the package from source you need to set the iconDir key for your own. see more information in the INSTALL file.
