As root, copy the contents of the archive to /opt/kde3/share/apps/ksplash/Themes. Now you should have a folder called "SuSE-Splash-v1.0" in there as well.
Now open Control Center and go to Apperance & Themes and then to Splash Screen. Here you should be able to find the new splash, and apply it.
Two observations, minor, but still worth noting on Suse 9.2+....
1) I have to say that I really can't stand the new shade of "blue" that Suse is using. Drab, blah, yuck. 9.1's brighter shade of blue really felt 'good" and stood out.
2) "A Novell Business"...I can see the Novell branding and expect it, but to throw in "business"? Too corporate, to sterile, too "business".

i am not sure what you mean by "default SuSE icons"...do you mean CrystalSVG?

i made the splash based on the official logo and colors...perhaps you should email your opinion to SuSE/Novell instead? :o)
