...and I think it's great. Just what I was looking for. Better than dockbarx for my use and it uses one third the ram, as well. Nice. Please keep on developing it. I'm now a fan. Again, thank you. Bob

Hi - great litlle applet - I can't live without it. But i've just installed Linux Mint 11 (Gnome 2.32), and Talika refuses to launch ("The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_mintMenu".) It used to work in Mint10, but I think they've changed the MintMenu. I've tried without Desktop Effects, and I've tried compilling from source - same error.

Same here - Ubuntu 11.04, Classic desktop. It seems this version is not compatible with the latest Gnome panels.

This a brilliant application and extremely useful. Many thanks! I only have had one issue: When I pin firefox 4, I end up with firefox 4 safe mode pinned. Any ideas why? This only presented a few days ago, so I am guessing (and hoping) it must have something to do with an update.

vangelas

OK this was fixed after a firefox update...

I'm just curious if anyone out there is having the same issue as me? When gnome panel is not in expanded mode, workspace switcher doesn't update (or its very slow to respond when it does) when the option "include all workspace" is enabled. The issue has been replicated on all three of my machines, running Linux Mint 10, Mandriva 2010.2 and Slackware 13.

Thank you so much for this! I have tried all the dock programs as I am a big fan of icon application indicator (as opposed to the use of buttons in gnome), but always find myself coming back to the gnome panel. Have not found a dock that's as simplistic as the gnome panel. This applet gives the gnome panel that elegant touch. Long live the gnome panel! Thanks again!

You see the "Pythony" icon - well that is actually Miro, that should have the well known m icon. Othervise, thank you very much for hard work, it work awesome. http://www.shrani.si/f/2M/vC/qYrwNXA/screenshot.png http://www.getmiro.com/

the installation of the source on Fedora 14 X86_64 reports no error, but adding the applet to gnome's panel crashes. resulting in the following error message: The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:TalikaApplet"

I also had this issue on Mandriva. However, I installed version 0.49 from a repo I found somewhere (there was a link posted here, however it didn't work) and have no issues with it. Given said that, version 0.49 is somewhat lacking, and doesn't have all the new functions that 0.50 brings. THIS CAN BE FIXED. I extracted the 64bit deb file, and copied over all the necessary files into their respective directories for the applet (I just opened up the package manager and found where talika 0.49 files were), except for the bonobo server file. I did this, and now I have the latest version. Let me know if you have problems finding a x86 version of talika 0.49.

Once in a while, Talika launchers don't seem to respond correctly. For example, I'll click a pinned launcher for my file manager and the icon animation (where it zooms out as it fades) happens VERY slowly and the application takes a long time to open. Opening the application from the system menu seems to work fine, and I can't see any other problems with my system. vino, have you seen or heard of this, and do you have any steps for me to debug?

vinoddahiya

Humm.. You are the first one to report this bug. Try disabling compiz effect (desktop effects) and launch app. Does it still take too much time.

hhh

I had some time today and discovered that this problem always occurred after GDM took longer than normal to start. I then discovered a brief "vga=791 is deprecated" warning on boot. After reinstalling GDM and commenting out the offending line, it appears I can no longer reproduce my bug. I'll post back if it rears it's ugly head again, but until then thanks for the quick reply and I love Talika! :^)

i love it... i install talika fisrt everytime i reinstall the system :D i want to ask somethink... with 0.50 can't see the panel buttons from theme... active, normal, and prelight buttons i see only selected color...

vinoddahiya

buttons has been removed from talika. Now it shows only images. It gives you freedom to make icon bigger.

se3n

i see now why icons looks better... :P can i make panel bigger and bring back the buttons some how ? just asking :P

manuee

First of all, great applet, I am definetly keeping this one. Only thing I'm having trouble with (on version 0.50) is getting to the settings of talika, I can only get to them clicking right between the icons, and this takes usualy 5 or 6 tries before i get the right menu. Is there an easier way to find these settings?

vinoddahiya

There is small handle on leftmost part of talika(a vertical line, three small horizontal line or a vertical solid bar depending on current desktop theme). You should right click there to get desired menu.

hhh

If, once you get into Preferences, you increase the space between icons under the Icons tab then you can also click in between icons to access the Preferences menu.

hhh

Great, thank you!

Vinod, thank you for this amazing app, I've been using for a couple of months and I absolutely love it. Anyway, I compiled it from source with the instructions you posted on page 3 (works perfectly), but what's the best way to upgrade... do I just do everything again to install it over the old version or do I need to remove things first? Thank you again!

vinoddahiya

just install over it.
