Description:
This is my grub splash that matches my fbsplash theme

to use it:

sudo cp ubuntu-grub.xpm.gz /boot/grub

sudo echo splashimage=/boot/grub/ubuntu-grub.xpm.gz > /boot/grub/menu.lst

it should be 2 arrows(>>). one overwrites and 2 append you fool!

Because ... sudo echo splashimage=/boot/grub/ubuntu-grub.xpm.gz > /boot/grub/menu.lst ... simply krush your menu.lst, and poor lost souls could not boot on next restart.
