going vegan would make me panic! http://torvalds-family.blogspot.com/2010/05/pig-lovers-oath.html
THIS is what makes me panic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvWt8gwa5zo&has_verified=1
well, they're animals. it's not murder, it's food. and it wouldn't let me watch the video.
what is food? food is something that one chooses to eat. but what we eat matters. if pigs are food, what about dogs? how come this "food" has to be slaughtered and cooked before we can eat it? this is quiet a difference compared to the plants that offer us fruits and vegetables, WITHOUT being scared, stressed or screaming while slaughtering. if animals are food, why do they suffer? why do they want to live as much as humans do? do you know the movie earthlings?
well, dogs ARE food in some countries. We just find the idea absurd because some of us keep them as pets. we could keep a pig as a pet, too. i actually don't like dogs, i'd rather have a pig as a pet :-P it has to be slaughtered and cooked before we eat it because we would get sick it we ate it raw or live. the last bit is about philosophy. i don't think that animals have souls and thoughts other than instinct. it's not murder, because the animal is non-sentient. they suffer because they die. if an animal is killed in the wild t suffers, so if it is killed by people it suffers, too. and, no, i've never seen earthlings, and don't know of it, either.
here are the facts: animals are more than a bundle of instincts. Animals can love, play, feel joy, pain, stress, some even have humor, and so on. This is not my opinion, but facts. Watch movies of animals. Watch a cow cry because humans took away her calf in order to get milk. or if you have a dog and you go on vacation for a week. when you come back your dog will be truly happy, not in some state of some instinct. But most importantly: animals can feel pain and have therefore the ability to suffer. this is some form of consciousness. here is philosophy: since animals as well as humans feel pain, what's the difference? You tell me! why is intelligence or any other "human" characteristic morally relevant? if you are slaughtered, it doesn't matter if you recognize yourself in the mirror. it's the pain that counts. some 200 years ago Darwin discovered that humans are just another animal race (homo sapiens). some 50 years ago george orwell wrote that some animals are more equal, right? based on what? and yes, animals die in nature as well. But i think it's quiet a difference if they are bred by humans only to be killed again. and you probably don't know that there are over 50 billions (!!!) of animals killed per year for meat, dairy, eggs and other products. This adds a HUGE amount of unnecessary suffering to the animal world. and here's earthlings: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6361872964130308142#
