Now we need the full package. Splash screen, this, windows theme for KDE or Gnome and windows sounds.

People really should stop trying to make GNU/Linux like Windows IMO. GNU/Linux has it's own identity and if Windows users are to retarded to make the switch because of something like graphics they should stick with Windows.

I think people should actually try to increase the amount of windoze-interface cloning IMO. The linux user base needs to expand. To do this we have to make the 'transition' as easy as possible the 80% of windows sales that come from people buying a new computer. As to the copyright stuff. As a common lawyer myself, I always thought damages had to be proved for any claim, bar a claim in equity for which the remedy would be an injunction in this case. If I was you, I would continue to feel free to pursue your work until M$ notifies you to stop it.

I know Windows-bashing is popular, but I think you should give credit for the work his has done. Technically he has done a fine job. I think he should be rated for that !

You managed to capture the look of XP's login screen perfectly. Don't listen to the zealots - sure, people want "originality" and such, but something like this will help wean people off of Windows to XP gently. People want familiarity with their computer - and it's not just the arrangement or function of widgets. In the mind of John Q. Public, it's all vanity.

Meant to say "from Windows XP to Linux" in that comment. Edit comment feature, please!

I think we need themes that closely resemble the XP and Vista in order to help with "technophobe" users making the switch, but don't use the actual Microsoft graphics. They are not necessary to make the switch, and they only help people like Steve Ballmer who make the claim that the open source community does not respect intellectual property. Mr Ballmer's comments about an "undisclosed balance sheeet" are hot air. .. So don't give him substance with which to file a lawsuit against someone.

Copyrighted and, although, crap. Please, unload it. Sorry if you lost your time as I am losting mine wirtting now. However, migrating is about usability and custom issues, not about a crappy and copyrighted logo. Bye.

Weelll.... I'm not really so sure... I mean, how much do I have to do with these graphics until I achieve what we in Sweden call "Verkshöjd"? But... I guess you're right.

Great work. All that is needed now is a kernel gensplash to match the low resolution one actually found in Windoze XP.

tenshinoshi

Man that looks really close to the original. Too bad there is no way to make it a chooser style and still look fairly true to XP's

seraphyn

I think to gave otu one under GPL-License could cause in Problems. Greetings

I'm using this theme atm with a Windows XP lookalike for Beryls emerald in XFCE with the 'start'button in XFCE-panels menu ^^

integer

Install XP or Vista then.

HaNieL

Yes! Please, and can you maybe port Beryl for me? And fix the filesystem? And all the other things I use Linux for?

For applying GDM themes, there is this tool:

Note Ubuntu uses LightDM, so you would need to switch to GDM first to use GDM themes:
