I just did this: 1. installed emerald (sudo apt-get install emerald)
2. then went into System>Preferences>Emerald Theme Manager 3.imported the downloaded file (it was on my desktop)
4. The actual command is compiz --replace -c emerald and NOT compiz--replace -c emerald... so it was just a spelling error.
It works fine for me thanks for the beautiful theme!
to work with emerald themes in gutsy, you should install emerald first
sudo apt-get install emerald
then you should run the following command to tell compiz to use emerald:
compiz--replace -c emerald
(you may add it to your session settings so it starts automatically)

i did install emerald i did try the command, but after i imported the file, nothin happen.. can anybody help me?

Just open the Emerald them manager and click on "import", and voila!! select the theme from the list.
