Awesome job on this, =).. Currently using this as my Grub Boot Splash on my Gentoo Linux Box.. By the way, I know this is over a year old, but should also add, edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and edit /boot/grub/grub.conf, just so new people to Linux wouldn't be confused, =). In my Gentoo, you edit the /boot/grub/grub.conf file, =). Just a word of advise, =).

GRUB

How to install a grub theme:

  1. Extract the theme to /boot/grub/themes/

  2. Edit /etc/default/grub file. Find the line starting with "#GRUB_THEME" and change it to "GRUB_THEME=/boot/grub/themes/[THEME_FOLDER]/[theme.txt]" (replace [THEME_FOLDER] ; [theme.txt] is probably OK ; remove "[]" brackets)

  3. Run sudo update-grub
